Welcome to String Theory

This is Dead Ringer speaking.

We're all connected, somehow. You all should realize that.

This chalkboard: it's only a blank slate, like all of your minds. I will now instil the fear in all of you that you tried to do with me... The hazing has gone on far enough. We almost tried to kill each other. It's how hazing works. But now, all of you will fall one by one.

One by one.

Have you figured me out yet?

I'm your God. I'm your Devil. I'm your life, your death...I'm one of you. But you don't know who I am. You'll never know. Have you figured me out yet?

Are you scared yet?

The first murders will occur soon. You have been warned.

 Five More Minutes, Mommy
« Thread Started on Jun 13, 2008, 12:23pm »

'Just five more minutes mommy' the little black haired girl said. She was cleaning off her first softball mit her step parents had bought for her. The girl placed the mit gently back in a bat bag as if it would break and fall apart. Her step parents stood there waiting for the girl to get in the car so they could go to church. She sat in the back seat. The poor ten year old girl suffered so much. 'Cassie!' a voice cried out to her'

Cassie jumped awake. She was sweating, and she found her on the floor in the music room. She was breathing heavily, and her head was hurting. She had a pair of sticks in her hands and a quad set out in front of her. She placed her sticks down, and pulled her legs up. She held them like they were her last source of hope for her. She pulled her head up, and tears were already streaming down her face. She wiped them away, and stood up. Sticks in hand, she walked over to the quad. All her musical talent lead within this instrument along with the marimba, the vibes, and many other percussion instruments. She began warming up her hands starting at drum 3, going toward drum 4, and ended on drum 2.

As this process continued, she began steadily going faster and faster. Her hands were a blur of white. You couldn't see anything, her hands were flying so fast. She slowed down, then. Her hands needed to be stretched out. She made her hands seem like they were praying and she pushed them down. She flipped them over, and then pulled toward her chest. She released her hands and stretched our her shoulders. All right. Here we go she thought. She began practicing the show for the college football game. It wasn't very difficult. She had gone through a worse and harder show. This one would be suffice. As she played, she had a big grin on her face like she had just conquered the world.

&. tell me how you've never felt

There was silence down the corridors of the music department, a usual sound considering the whole block was soundproofed to a certain degree. But still, it didn’t stop the keen hearing of one student picking up on the sound of drumming. She had been a music student for a while now, so she had to have a keen ear for noises. Otherwise she’d miss her cues and other things like that. Footsteps echoed slightly as she walked slowly down the hallway, head turning slightly until her eyes were facing one of the rooms. It wasn’t that one where the drumming was coming from, because the stereo wasn’t going. So, it was a real drummer going for it? Well, whoever it was; they were good, she’d give them that. Grey-blue eyes turned back to the hall, pace getting a little faster as she walked on. The thin heels on her boots tapped against the hard floor, making a rhythm of her own. Black hair swayed with every movement, arms hanging by her sides, swaying also. It wasn’t until the drumming got louder, that she stopped completely, her gaze swinging around until she was faced with the window to the drumming room. There, on one of the many kits, was a blonde-haired girl, drumming away to herself. A smile was over her face, which made her smile to. It was good to see another music lover around.

Flicking some of her black hair to the side with a thin hand, she rested the other hand on her hip, letting the right arm drop and hang. Foot tapped away with the beat of the drum, like she did when she was singing or even playing the piano. A white shirt clung to her top half, tied in a bow under her chest, showing off quite a bit of flesh. She was in her ‘innocent school-girl’ mode, making the rather plain and innocent uniform reveal her inner dare-devil and quite a bit of her body. She normally would wear something a bit more…appropriate for music, but to be honest, Gwen couldn’t be bothered. She placed her hand on the door knob, looking into the room, still smiling. Taking her other hand, she knocked on the door. She knew it wouldn’t be heard, but she thought it at least polite. The music student was always more polite in this department than the others, because she loved it so much. Pushing open the door, resting her body on the frame, she looked over to the drummer, the smile still on her face. “You’re a good drummer hun; you got a real beat going on.” Letting the smile fade, she took a few more steps into the room, closing the door behind her and looking back to the blonde girl at the kit. Gwen found her cute really, but she found most people cute. Personality was more than looks in her books. Well, that didn’t stop her from ‘experimenting’, but that was a story never told to anyone.

She was in her drummer mode. Nothing could her attention way. The show the college had given her to practice along with the rest of the drumline was called Chase. It was made by popular by a trumpet called Bill Chase. He was apart of a band that made the songs. It's an excellent band. Cassie had doen her research on them. Soon enough, it was modified into a drum and bugle corp style show. Cassie thought the drum arrangement was good. For average players, but she couldn't get anything harder without trying out for an actual drum and bugle corp which she really didn't want to do. It would take all her time away from college, and becoming the thing she wanted most.

Soon enough, she finished. She twirled the sticks around her fingers, and she grinned. She heard a voice complimented her. She spun around and looked at the girl. She was a brunette, and had quite an interesting outfit. She smiled kindly. "Oh thanks. I try," she said with a lauge. She began stretching out her shoulder and hands. It was the last thing she needed was to have her muscles stiffen up on her. She puffed out a breath of air, and said,"I'm Cassie." She placed out her hand for the girl to shake. She was a tomboy, so she acted like she was in business. Exchange names, shake hands, and so on and so forth. She was a different girl. Very tough. She played softball like she were a guy playing baseball. She was a drummer. She was a martial artist apart of an intense art from Japan. It was the best to not mess with this girl.

&. tell me how you've never felt

Small strands of hair wavered over her grey eyes, one of her slim hands shifting to push them away from her eyes. She was very interested in the drummer-girl. The last drummer she had seen was a boy, and wasn’t nearly as good as this girl was. Still, he was somewhat of a friend, but after their little fall-out, she was left to make up beats with her heels. Still, Gwen wouldn’t have anything else to do with him for a while… Her hands went from her hair, to her shirt. Both of them tugged on the knot of the shirt, making it tighter, so it wouldn’t fall back to normal. It was a small habit she had when she was dressed in that way. She would either be messing with the knot or her plaited skirt, whichever was bugging her more. Letting her attention drift back to the blonde girl, a smile came back on her face as the compliment hit home. Grey eyes drifted between the twirling drum sticks and finally rested on the girl, Cassie has she had just introduced herself.

Going closer to her, heels tapping away at the ground, she took the girls hand and shook it in a strange mix of gentle and rough, wondering on how to react to such a motion. Personally, she was used to the usual ‘hello’ or even a hug from some of her closer friends. Still, it was a new feeling, to be mixing with a girl who seemed tomboy-ish. Giving a small nod, Gwen let her hand fall away and rest on her hip again. “It’s fine. Nice to see a girl who can give the boys a run for their money.” Smiling wider and laughing a little, she shook her black hair and stood straight again. Gwen was somewhere in the middle of tomboy and a ‘real girl’. She would do anything really, depending on her mood. Most of the time, she would act tough and such, but she was a real sweetheart and such inside. It was something she always used when puzzling people. Still, that wasn’t the most puzzling thing about her. The black-haired girl let her smile get a tad smaller, before speaking again. “The name’s Gwendolyn, though you can call me Gwen if you’d prefer.” An urge suddenly came into her stomach, causing her gaze to flicker for a moment. She wanted to start singing again. She had been concentrating on her piano skills for a few weeks now, and she was guessing her vocal chords had probably rusted up in that time. That was for later though, she had to get some socializing in first.

Cassie smiled. The girl seemed kind of nervous, because she messed with her hair, then her shirt, and then her concentration went back to her hair, again. Certainly interesting character. She smiled at the comment. She lauged, and crossed her arms with the sticks underneath her arms. "I'd like to think so," she said with a confident grin. She had most of her life. She remembered coming into freshman of high school. She went into the drumline tryouts. All the guys there thought she couldn't handle it. Boy, were they wrong.

One guy came up and asked,'So what cha gonna try out for?'. She looked at the arrangment of different drums. She said,'Snare and quads'. He said,'All right'. They walked over to a snare drum. He asked her to do a couple of things. She did it, and they seemed surprised. Then they walked over to the quads. Boy, did she show them. As she began playing, their mouths seem to drop to their feet. They were stunned. For some reason, playing quads came to her naturally. She made quads freshman and stuck with it till senior year. She was captain, too. Her mind came back to her head, and she smiled.

Gwen. It was a nice name. "Nice to meet ya, Gwen," she muttered. Cassie placed the sticks down on a drum, and then pulled the hair band that was holding her black hair back. She ruffled it up and little bit, then pulled it back into a semi-neat ponytail. She pulled the sticks back into her hand and looked at them. They needed to be retaped. They were started to look like shit. She began peeling the tape off, and then she asked,"So, what brings you here today Gwen?" She continued peeling the tape as she waited for the answer from Gwen.

&. tell me how you've never felt

Grey-blue eyes looked around the drum room for a moment. She had never so many drum kits in one space. It was quite a sight to her. She spent most of her life in the recording studio, and was hardly ever looking around the music department much. Her mind was wandering quite a bit today, which was unusual for her. Normally, she would be able to carry a long conversation with someone, even if she’d only just met them. Maybe there was something else becoming involved in her mind? There’d better not be…Gwen shook her head for a moment, looking back to Cassie. She gave a shy smile, her slightly tanned cheeks getting a little red as she blushed, a small laugh coming out of her red lips. Blinking for a few moments and shifting her position to a more casual one. She pulled one of the drummers stools closer to her, letting her weight fall down onto one, legs crossing at the knee. It felt good to be sitting down at last, because (telling nobody) her ankles were killing her at the moment. Stupid heels…

Noticing the confident grin that formed on the girls face, Gwendolyn smiled again, looking at her more directly than before. Slowly, she was getting more confident around the new girl. It wasn’t normal for her to be nervous or shy, so something must have been up with her. The black haired girl couldn’t be bothered to dwell on that, so gave a small nod to Cassie. “You know, you’re a lot better than my drummer was. At least you can keep a beat going.” Smirking a little to herself, she could see her old drummer in her head. Oh, how she loathed him. He was such an idiot, and always denied it. Still, Gwen was glad he was gone, even if she missed him a little. Her head titled ever so slightly to the left as she crossed her hands on her lap, fingers messing with her skirt again. Feeling stupid, she slapped her hands down and made sure they weren’t moving anymore. Gwen watched Cassie messing with her own hair, and I made her laugh inside. ‘Another one who messes with her hair. It can’t be nervousness then!’ Grey-blue eyes fell to the wooden drumsticks, and the girl watched as Cassie undid the tape that was around them. She heard her speak again, so looked away from the sticks and back at her.

Well, how could she reply to that question?

It was a bit bad to bluntly say she was a singer and pianist. Still, there was nothing more she could say. Gwen wasn’t after anyone, unlike her attire suggested. “Well, I came to do some singing. I’ve been neglecting my vocal chords…spending quite a bit of time on the piano instead.” Laughing a little at her own reply, she blinked again, letting one of her hands rise up to twist her locket around, the small heart etched onto the front becoming visible. Her hand lowered again as she looked to the floor. God, why was she acting so odd today?!

She smirked. She continued working on her current assignment. The tape came off easily, which was the easy part. Now came the hard part. She went into her pile of stuff, and pulled out her stick bag. In one of the pockets, she pulled out a roll of white stick tape. Stick tape had the exactly same feeling as regular electric tape. She began wrapping it around the first stick. She smiled. "Thanks. All good drummers try their best," she muttered. There was an odd air about this whole thing. It was quite different for Cassie.

She wasn't afraid of it. More entertained by it, then anything else. She finished the one stick, and then went on to the next one. It was a task Cassie never liked to do. It was a pain, really. It wasn't a difficult task, it was one of those that you never liked to start. She finished both sticks, and placed it on the drum. She looked back over at Gwen as she muttered her reply to the question she threw out there. She nodded her head, and understood completely. "Well, I don't think I could go a day without drumming. It would probably drive me insane," she said with a laugh.

Grey eyes continued to look over the girl, watching her tape up the drumsticks. She had never seen someone take such care over an instrument. Then again, she would slave over the piano if she could. Seriously, she was the only person who even thought of cleaning and tuning the thing. Heels tapped on the ground as she shifted again, possibly out of nervousness. Or some other emotion, racing around in her mind. Gwen blamed it on the air…the odd vibes filling it. She had no idea why she felt so uncomfortable, she just did. She continued to watch Cassie with the drum sticks, her comment about good drummers popping up every once in a while, to remind her to reply. Her ability to forget things was pretty darn good, but her forgetting to reply; it was just an absurd thought. Still, it kept on coming into her mouth, the feeling of not being able to talk. ‘God, something must be wrong with me today…’

Raising her hand again, she tugged at the knot of her shirt, seeing that it was loosening a little. Oh, she wouldn’t like it to fall out. Well, maybe a little. It felt odd letting herself be rather ‘bare’ around Cassie, yet she never felt like it around other people. Heck, she didn’t even care half of the time, except if jaws dropped. Then she’d just be high as a kite. Shaking her head a little, black locks falling over her face a little, Gwen gave a smile towards the other girl. Quickly, she removed the stray hairs, before feeling her face heat up once more. Damn, this was getting annoying. Sighing in slight anger over her constant blushing and shyness, hands dropped to her sides, only to rest on her hips. Hearing Cassie’s next comment made her join in with the laughter. “Yeah, same here. I don’t think I’d live without singing. Or a piano for that matter.” Smile widening, she let her head fall back a little as she sighed again, in a more happier tone than before. It felt nice to relax and chat with someone new. Gwen was getting a little tired of the same conversations with the same old people. She needed some form of excitement, right? And then it dawned on her, a fresh thought. A kind of randomly strange thought too.

‘Why do I have this sudden urge to ask her to come for a drink sometime? I bet she doesn’t even drink. But, that tomboy attitude…seriously, why am I even thinking this! Why do I want to ask her out for a drink…I don’t get it? I mean, sure she’s pretty and all, but that doesn’t mean I ask every pretty thing with legs out for a drink…Oh for Christ’s sake!’

Sitting upright again, Gwen’s grey eyes looked at the newly taped up drumsticks. They looked as good as new, which made her smile widen for a brief moment, possibly even forming a grin. “So Cassie, anything else you do, besides your amazing drumming?”

Cassie smirked. This girl was quite an interesting character. There was a new vibe she was getting from her. It was new, and she couldn't remember the last time she felt this feeling. She really couldn't. She breathed in deeply, and placed her hands on her hips. She smiled. Just like her. Addicted to her instrument. She chuckled, and shrugged. "Sure I do other things. I don't know if I'm as good as drumming," she muttered,"I'm a softball player and I'm in martial arts, but that's about it. What about you?"

She titled her head to one side, observing the very pretty girl in front of her. She had pretty gray eyes, and beautiful black hair. She blinked. What the hell was she thinking about? It was weird. "I also love planes," she whispered gently as she looked at the floor at the memories. Cayton. War. Death. Flying. Damned memories she really wanted to forget. Poor Cayton she thought. She got the worst end of the deal. Cassie made it with her life.

&. tell me how you've never felt

Gwen felt rather more relaxed now, and the tension which was flowing around her body was fading, all be it rather slowly. It had been a while since she had stepped out of her comfort-zone of friends. To be perfectly honest, she couldn’t even call them friends. They were just people she talked with and got along with. Her last true friend had left when she was a teenager, to move to Russia. After that…well, that was a different story all together. A different story of love, lust and lies. But that was all behind her now, even if those painful memories were implanted in the back of her mind. Shaking her head a little and closing her eyes, she pushed back the image of her previous lover, before letting her eyes open again and look around the room like nothing had just happened. Those grey eyes she held watched as Cassie shrugged and chuckled to herself, most likely over the comment she had made earlier. She felt her fingers slowly go under the band of her skirt, to stick out slightly as they touched the cold skin over her hips. Gwen had never realised how cold her body was, but she instantly blamed it on the lack of heating in the music rooms. Her nails ran down over her bones, fingers following. It felt weird, what she was doing. It was an odd thing she did if she was sitting down. She was just praying that Cassie wasn’t aware of what she was going. It would be an awkward moment if she did…

Well, Gwendolyn would have to wait and see what developed.

It wasn’t long before she noticed the other girl tilt her head to one side, her long black hair lying so softly over her shoulders. She also found her eyes very pretty as well; pools of a crystalline blue colour. So cool and calm, yet hiding something which Gwen couldn’t really pick out. It made her legs flinch a little as she thought about it deeper. She had to get her mind away from looks. Giving a small nod as she listened on to Cassie’s words, she smiled sweetly to the other girl. So, she played softball, and did martial arts? ‘Wow, now that’s a tough chick!’ Her fingers were still placed on the skin of her hips, wrists poking out from the skirt as her arms were resting on her sides. Stomach moved in and out just a tiny bit as she breathed a tad slower, relaxing further in a new-vibe-filled environment. “Softball? Martial Arts?” Gwen exaggerated her voice to sound shocked, pushing her body back a tad to make the feeling even more exaggerated. She was trying to act like she would never imagine such a girl doing boyish things. Smiling wider and laughing, she continued in her soft yet slightly rough tone, “That’s a good mix of things you’ve got going on there Cassie hun. Still, can’t imagine a girl like you doing that.”

Giving a wink, she laughed again, sitting upright once more. Her heels tapped a little on the floor as she pushed her body to the upright position, eyes wandering to the floor, where she saw Cassie looking. Had she just unearthed some bad memories, since she whispered the part about planes? Gwen hoped not. She let her eyes rise again, looking straight at the other girl, mind still dwelling on asking her out for a drink later. There was the thing about that killer or whatever it was. To tell you the truth, she was scared, but she never really showed it. She still went out and partied like hell. “Well, apart from my music loving…I guess you could call me a party animal. I like a night out or two, with a select few.” She smiled again, pushing her hands a little more into her skirt, fingertips skimming over her hip bones as she went, finally landing on her underwear. She really had to stop the habit of putting her hands on her hips, under clothing…Shaking her head again a little, Gwen let another sigh come out of her mouth.

It was too late. Her mind was completely distracted. Gwen couldn't bring her back. Her mind was now wandering within her memories. Those poor cursed memories. She sat down on the ground, and kind of placed her hands over her face. She felt a couple tears spill down her cheek. Everyone always said she was a tough chick, and that she could handle anything. Well, she couldn't handle this. This was the only that could make her sit down and cry like a baby. Cayton. Her best friend. She wanted to go up and hug her. So badly. She was dieing to see her.

She looked up at Gwen, and wiped the tears away. Fuck. I didn't want her to see this she thought. She smiled reassuringly. She nodded her head at the comments Gwen threw out there. She smirked. A kind of boyish smirk. Like that one smirk when a guy looks at a girl, and knows that he has her. Cassie's head fell down, and she picked it up again. She blinked a couple of times. Another tear fell. Damn it she thought Now she's gonna think I'm weak. She laughed. Party animal, huh? Sounded like her A LOT.

Cassie tilted her head as Gwen...well basically...stroked herself. She quirked an eyebrow. Interesting habit to have picked up on, really. She smiled. "Sounds like me. Maybe we can go for a drink something, huh?" she asked. She wouldn't mind drinking with Gwen, maybe dancing. She liked her. Maybe a little more than what she thought she did. She wanted to forget the memories, but she had just somewhere sob in front of a crush. She basically described it. It was nothing else to Cassie, but a crush that might not go anywhere. Or it could happen. She wasn't sure.

Finally feeling to odd for words, Gwen pulled her hands out of her skirt, resting them back on her lap. Her fingers interlocked again for a moment, before she forced them apart with a swift tugging motion. Her grey eyes lifted up from the floor to look around the drumming room again. It was your average music room really, apart from the four different drum kits scattered around. She had never really been here before, so there was an unusual vibe coming from the kits. It was rather exiting really, being somewhere new and all. Still, there were a lot more things to be seen and done in her lifetime, it wasn’t over yet…Her mind slowly began to wander away from Cassie, into a little world of her own like always.

‘I wonder why I can’t call them friends. I mean, they’re always there for me and all. Still, I can’t help but miss Lauren…God I miss her so much! My twin…my sister…my everything really. The only one who stood by me through thick and thin. The others? Ha! They can’t handle me really. They can’t be bothered to go clubbing and dance then night away.’

It wasn’t until there was still silence in the air that Gwen finally came back into the real world again. Her grey eyes looked to where Cassie was, but the stool was void of any presence at all. Looking down again, she could see the black haired girl on the floor, hands up to her face. It made her stomach turn, but not in a bad way. She felt rather helpless to tell you the truth, like she had no way of helping her out. Raising her hands to move away some hair, Gwen pushed her body off the stool. Letting herself sit on the ground next to Cassie, she let her arms wrap around her neck, letting her own body come next to hers. She wasn’t the best at comforting people, and all she ever did was hug them .Still, it was worth a shot. Using her hands to wipe the tears off of the girl’s clothes, she smiled sweetly down to her, even if she couldn’t see. “It’s okay Cassie hun; let it out.” She watched as Cassie smirked to her, and laughed. It made her laugh in an unusually girly manner for her.

Feeling rather embarrassed as Cassie tilted her head towards her, Gwen smirked a little. ‘God, I bet she saw my hands in my skirt back then…Oh dam it all!’ Letting the smirk fade into a comfortable smile, Gwen shifted her hands a little, to make her and Cassie feel a bit more relaxed. She nodded her head slowly, looking into Cassie’s eyes for a second, before looking to the ground. “A drink?” Looking back to the black haired woman, she blushed a little as she loosened her grip on her body, backing off a second. Was she a mind reader, or were they thinking the same things all of a sudden? Shaking her head and smiling widely, Gwen looked over the girl for a moment, before replying. “Sure, why not. You seem like you might know something ‘bout having a good time hun!”

{Sorry if my post made no sense at all xD}

Cassie smiled as she tried to comfort her. There was nothing Gwen could do. Well, no one could really comfort her, except maybe Cayton, but she wasn't here so she was out of luck. She smiled and looked back up at Gwen. She nodded her head. "I'll tell you some other time about that," she muttered. She wasn't really in the mood for explaining her pain and sense of loss. She sighed deeply. She didn't want to let it out. It was hard enough just thinking about it.

She breathed in deeply, and then laughed again. "I know how to have a good time. So...when are you free?" she asked. It was going to be a get together, and then eventually develop into something else. Or so she hoped. She stood up, and allowed her hand to drop to her side so she could pull Gwen up. "Wanna go for coffee or something? I'm done practicing for the day. Just give me a couple minutes and we could go. How bout it?" she asked. She really hoped Gwen would take up on her offer. She smiled gently. Gwen was really a pretty girl.

&. tell me how you've never felt

Grey eyes looked down as Cassie smiled to her, making her give a small chuckle in happiness. She was glad to see the young woman alright again. Still, she could see that there were still emotions hidden deep within. However, it wasn’t her place to delve into her past, so let her be. Her feelings were backed up by the comment next made, about being told some other time. She gave a small nod, her hair still finding time to fall out of place with every small movement she made. She listened to the deep sigh coming from Cassie, and looked away from a moment, giving the girl some space.

Her head came back to Cassie, as Gwen heard her laughing again. It made a smile appear on her face, eyes sparking slightly so show she was happy. It felt good to know she felt trusted, even if she didn’t truly know the woman too well. Watching as the other girl stood up and let her hand drop, Gwen pushed her body up a little. She let her own hand grasp that of Cassie’s head lifting to loop up at her. She was still marvelling at her hair and eyes. And how much more of a boy she was with regards to hobbies and such. It made her smirk a little as she got up fully, looking directly to Cassie before gazing away again.

“Free? Well, anytime really. I ain’t got anything better to do.” Smiling again, she lifted a hand to flick her hair to one side, arms lowering to her hips. Her heels tapped on the floor as she turned her body around a little, to face the music room’s door. Head turned to face Cassie, the smile still on her face. “A coffee you say? How could I refuse that hun?” Giving a minor wink towards the other, her smile became softer; much like Cassie’s just had. Her mind was happily buzzing away. Maybe she would make a good friend come from the other woman…maybe more as time when by?

Cassie smiled. Gwen had such a beautiful smile. She wondered. How this girl had so much free time? They were in college with exams and studying. How did she have time? Well, she could understand. The threats that were going around of the killer. She sighed. It was really a sad thing to hear. It really was. She shook her head of the stupidity. She pulled the quad out and placed it back in its case. She sealed it up along with her sticks since it was her drum for the year. She kept them there. She sighed.

She picked up her bag, and swung it around her shoulder. She hung her stick bag on her right shoulder opposite of the other bag. Her backpack wasn't very heavy, but her stick bag felt like it weighed like a ton of bricks. She walked over to the door. "Well good," she muttered with a smile. She walked out the door and closed the door behind her. She needed toward the cafeteria, but she paused. She spun around and she looked at Gwen.
